Amiable Singapore stockbroker Mohanadas Kandiah has run 145 marathons. His favourite: The Great Ocean Road Marathon.

“Mohan,” as he is known to his army of marathon friends worldwide, reckons the 45km course from Lorne to Apollo Bay has mystical appeal.

“You start at sea-level and you finish at sea-level,” Mohan said.
“The waves are singing your name. They are mesmerizing, fantastic.

“Trust me, it is so peaceful. You can smell the eucalyptus and there is no traffic.”

The remarkable Mohan, 51, ran 31 marathons in 2011.

On his own admission, there was once a period in his life when he smoked two packs of cigarettes daily and drank a bottle of brandy each night.

“That’s in the past,” he said. “I’m now a marathon man and the Great Ocean Road is my favourite.”

Mohan will be running the Great Ocean Road Real Estate Marathon for the fourth time in 2012.
